EMI Urban Music Connferance

Hello dreamers and achievers,

Just giving you all an update on something I was able to experience not to long ago. Last month EMI Publishing held their annual EMI Urban Music Conference in NYC. Through much struggle and persistence I found my way into the conference. I HAD A BLAST!!

Here A&R's, from every label you can imagine, as well as EMI writers and producers gather, meet, mingle, and of course collaborate with each other and music. They also discussed plans for this year. I met so many AMAZING people during this time. I also was giving the honor of meeting Jon "Big Jon" Platt, who is currently the West Cost President of EMI Publishing.

At the conference I was able to listen to a few new artist yet to be released (whoot!!) as well as some awesome songs written and produced by those writers, and producers currently signed to the EMI Publishing company (double whoot!!). Needless to say as an A&R I was in pure HEAVEN. It was part of a dream come true.

A&R Showcase

A few weeks ago I was given the amazing opportunity to review a few bands. The event was so much fun. I gained a lot of experience, just being able to sit and watch bands from a musical genre outside of my comfort zone. The night turned out to be great. In total about five bands performed. These bands included We Are The In Crowd, AllStar Weekend, The Downtown Fiction, and The Ready Set.

The band that headlined the show is the amazingly talented The Ready Set. All the bands did a great job. We Are The In Crowd brought a bit of different flavor with their female lead singer. AllStar Weekend showed off their skilled musicianship and boyish good looks to a crowd of screaming teenagers. Not to forget the electric and very entertaining performance by The Downtown Fiction.

I came back into the office the next morning with a full report of the night. My boss loved it. I can't wait to attend another show case. I've always love doing these. Although often times they never turn out this good. I guess I got lucky this time around.

Divine Destiny

Destiny is divinely given. It's embedded in your DNA from birth. No one on this earth can do what you are placed here to do better than you. (no matter how hard they try.) This is something most people never come to realize. As a result when they see another person attempting to do something similar to their dreams they become very nervous.

Successful people realize that it doesn't matter how many others emerge after them. It doesn't matter how much more money they have. Nor does it matter how much talent opposers present. What matters is that whoever aggressively accepts their true destiny, and fights to make it real is the person who will win in the end. This is why the phrase "Many are called, but few are chosen" rings so true.

The road to an empire is filled with twist and turns. Often it involves realizing that you are not alone on the journey. With that realization, remember to NEVER get distracted. Separate what's real from the distractions and stay focused. How do you stay focused you ask? By embracing the point raised above. Always remember that if you are TRULY following your personal legend, then no one can take whats rightfully yours unless you surrender it to them.

Be true. Be free. Be divinely you. After all, at the end of the day, there is only one you. Your makeup is unique and special. You are special. Embrace your power. Never fall victim of trying to walk in another person light. You'll only be blinded. Instead illuminate the earth with your own light.

All my life I've LOVED music. It has been a part of me since birth. I can't explain it but I love music almost the way I would love a man. We go through many ups & downs but through it all we stay strong and true. We can never seem to officially brake up.

You never know how much the thing you grow up with will one day change your whole life. Something that most considered a hobby is now the very thing that has become more then a career, but also a lifestyle.

I'm often asked about all the endeavors I'm pursuing along with the obstacles I face in order to become a record executive. Its amazing the things you will have to go through while on your personal journey to make your dreams reality. The adventure never seems to stop. I'm finally ready to share this journey with you all.

I'll take you with me into the studio, meetings, as well as the day to day task of being an A&R. You'll be along for the ride as I finally start my label. Not to forget all the fun stuff I do on the side like engineering, songwriting, dancing, and discovering new talent.

I've sworn to be as transparent as possible. With that being said, welcome to my world. This is "The Story Of A Record Executive: The Female Mogul."
